Kristen L. Shake, PhD Candidate
Here at the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University, my research is centered upon the fields of legal geography & polar climate change. Specifically, I am interested by themes of human presence & absence in the polar regions and how these are linked to climate related drivers of change to legal spaces in both terrestrial and marine environments, the legal presence of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean and how this connects to larger issues of sovereignty & resource extraction operations, and legal issues surrounding marine & environmental safety infrastructure in an increasingly sea ice-free Arctic Ocean.
